hair how-to

Leave it to Joanna to count among her friends not only a hair expert - who looks like a model - but also a sartorialist-esque photographer (and have the west village apartment in which to shoot such a stylish spread).

The three got together and spit out this gorgeous hair how-to/photo shoot. so. lovely.

in other hair news, this double knot hair-do has inspired me too. i've been wearing a dumbed down version of it this week, which consists of me letting my part fall wherever (which is standard procedure for any way i style my hair) then blindly dividing it into two unequal pices and twisting and clipping (with the clip tucked invisibly under the twists) the two sections one over/beside the other. i haven't seen it but it feels like it must look good.

p.s. i have the duvet cover that is the backdrop of the photo series. and that makes me feel cool. sort of.

tis the season of l ♥ v e

i'm not romantic enough to let this blog become overwhelmed with Valentine posts, so don't fear.

i did, however, find this adorable video over on lilies and sparrows and think it's worth sharing.

and it might not be the last of the love-fest around here for the next few weeks - consider yourself warned.

p.s. someone cleverly posted the words typed by the adoring boy (and i've just spent entirely too long re-looking for who to no avail - if you know, please tell me so i can credit them):

This is the story of a charming girl
She laughs out loud, sings off key and believes in taking chances

She is quick and curious and playful and strong

She lets her imagination run away with her

She has never been one to stick to convention

She is fond of daydreams that take her places

She can order a cocktail in six different languages

She feels that understated is overrated

So They Say

I spotted this {amazing} quote (and print!) on Paloma's blog this morning.

I'm on deadline (always) and this was just what I needed to see.

Even though I've been writing published articles for nearly a decade, they still always seem impossible to finish when they are nearly finished. Yet I've never looked back and said 'that was impossible.' Of course I haven't - who has?!

How encouraging to think once it's done, it's done!

I can't wait to be able to feel like that about our house. Right now completing it feels like such an impossibility. Even though we moved in two months ago, it is still so undone (and I do not mean like I want it to be draperies-in-every-room done, I mean it's still no-drawer pulls-,-bathroom-sinks-or-a-laundry-room undone).

I know it's coming though. And when it does, I may even have to hang this print somewhere (I think I even know the spot... it just doesn't exist yet *le sigh*)!

Lay Baby Lay

Have you seen Joni's latest project (we're obsessed with her. we know)?! It's a new blog (and I mean 'new' as in 'additional', not as in 'replacement')! And it is oh so cute - with the most perfect name, i might add!

She has a new babe (who is a.dor.able) and with that came a newfound infatuation with ... pretty much all. things. baby, soooo she created this new site as an outlet for her new faves (there is even pics of her {precious} nursery and a how-to of one of its darling elements!).
And we are thrilled because, you see, as far as we can tell, Joni can do no wrong.

I think you'll agree.

get ready {for RUE}

the brainchild of blogger/rockstars: Anne, Crystal, Alaina and Caitlin  premieres this month (on the 16th to be precise)!

The blogosphere has been abuzz for months in anticipation for RUE's debut and now... we are so close!

A few sneak peeks have leaked over the past few weeks and profiles of the founders have made their way around the web as well.

I am intrigued. (they have Max Wanger shooting photos for goodness sake!)

While I still prefer the tangible glossies that magazines (still) are, I am eager to embrace this newest addtion to the digital age ;)

Let the countdown begin...

Summer Shoes

Cassandra posted these. They remind me of these, which I happen to be wearing today. Are they similar or am I dreaming?!

Either way, they made me feel stylish (I'm not) and budget conscious (I'm trying to be). Oh, because did I mention the price tag on mine was one-tenth of the price of the others? wow.

and yes, i have more than one foot. i just happened to be walking while i took this picture and i wasn't up for a mid-morning pike.

how do you like us now?!

Happy Monday you three (are there at least three of you out there? *fingers crossed*)! Remember this? Well, we're slowly but surely putting it all together and our new logo is the first fruit.
We want you (our readers) to see it first, so it's making it's debut here ...

but we want you to help us decide ...

which one?!

cast your vote if you wanna

My friend Courtney takes some pretty awesome photographs. She also travels to some pretty incredible destinations. She takes pictures along the way.

One of them ended up here.

Her {gorgeous} photo (pictured above) is currently keeping great company . If you think it's is the best (i do), vote for it (and soon. the competition ends this week). It's entry #3.

see more of Courtney's trip here.

What's for Dinner

I know I am developing a bad habit of only blogging about things our blog is not (supposed to be) about ...

To that notion, you have to try this. I'm honestly not an advocate of frozen food - really - but this is just so good I break my rule for it, often. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

{Man, I crack myself up. While Jora and Joslyn take time out of their overwhelmingly busy lives to whip up genius and decadent meals for their babies, I'm feeding my (adult) family (which actually only consists of my husband and myself) something that only requires pre-heating the oven?! Sheesh!}

and E's not the only person I'm proud of in the Coastal Living(!) article... can you see what else I might be beaming about?!

Now Jamie posts this and I am about to die.

An all out obsession is welling up here.

hair pins :: ruthie {lindsey} sayles

Ruthie {Lindsey} Sayles may, quite possibly, be the most beloved + coolest + liveliest + sweetest + most adorable girl I've ever met. I remember being overwhelmed by all of these facets of her when we first met (how many?!) years ago and am reminded over and over again of how very true they are. (since both her adorableness and liveliness are apparent in the photo above and her sweetness, indescribable, the best i can do is offer you a hint or two (or three) about how cool she is: 1) she lives in Nashville *sigh*. 2) her husband is a (literal) rock star (hear this? that's him on the drums. on the new Norah Jones album!). 3) she and her home were recently photographed by Reid Rolls. 4 (oops! okay, four hints) her (incredible) house is going to be featured on d*s this week!!! - whew! oh, and for a picture of just how beloved she is, check this and this out.)

In the midst of year plagued with despair (see last link above if you haven't already), Ruthie has not only held strong to her faith and vitality, she has also inadvertently found yet another way to shine.

When she decided, or rather, happened, to start creating hair pins out of vintage findings, there was never any way they were going to be anything but lovely in every way. "I wanted one for myself and so I just tried it out," says Sayles. "The one I ended up making got lots and lots of positive feedback so I made a few for friends and it sort of went from there!" Made of found jewels from the 1940s, '50s & '60s (and sometimes feathers too!), each pin is unique; some make a subtle statement, others undeniably rock.

If you live in the Nashville or Baton Rouge areas, these darlings aren't hard to come by. They are currently be sold at Fruition Salon in Nashville, Emmaline Boutique in Franklin TN and Grandmother's Buttons in St. Francisville LA, where, as far as I can tell, only precious people come from. She's currently making it easy for anyone however, by taking orders by email. To deck yourself out just in time for holiday soiree-ing, contact Ruthie at

(more) wedding & photography love (i just can't stop)

last weekend - or was it the one before? - I travelled to Clinton, South Carolina (home of PC and... not much else - they said it) to witness one of my oldest and dearest friends (old in terms of how long i have known him - not in terms of his age. it's way too close to my own) marry his absolute perfect mate. since then, i have been meaning to blog about the beauty that surrounded every element of the weekend but i first couldn't find the time, then i couldn't find my camera, then i found my camera only to find my pictures were no good, then i found this.

there

are

no

words
