Kay Fuller Interiors

It feels a little funny for me to be writing a post entitled "Kay Fuller Interiors", but here I am :)  You see, while Arre and I do share the mother-in-law (Kay Fuller) who is the creative force (among other things) behind Kay Fuller Interiors (her interior design store she started 20+ years ago), I don't have the history with the store that Arre does.  Arre worked there long before she met her husband (Kays youngest son, the other one is mine) and I may be wrong, but i think it's where they met or at least got to know each other.  Her love of interior design has kept her in close contact with the store (well that and the fact that we are all now family) through the years.  But I am here to tell you that now Kay Fuller Interiors is carrying sweet em jewelry!

Family, or not, I feel honored to have my jewelry here.  Kay has such an eye for style and her store reflects that.

She has taught me a lot over the years.  When Jim and I moved into our first house she "helped" me decorate (as in did it all herself per my request because I honestly did not care what color the walls were and what fabric my pillows were in or even if I had pillows at all). I have come a long way but still rely on Kay and Arre for decorating advice.

While you are there, check out all the beautiful items KFI has to offer.  Many of her items are one of a kind finds.

 

She has recently started carrying baby gifts, and has always had wedding gifts, but now much more to offer!

It's definitely worth seeing and now you can grab your mom (sister, aunt, daughter, friend) or yourself some earrings as you browse.

And lastly, I will leave you with a snapshot of my home office. One (baby) step towards organization.

Nursery Notebook :: 2

Hello Again!

If I haven't waited so long between posts that I've lost your interest, here's an update:

The nursery is  s l o w l y  but surely progressing. We've gotten a lot done but it is not nearly ready for a baby (neither am I, truth be told, but ready or not, he or she is coming in the next few weeks)!

For starters, here's a instagram dump of what we have done:

Lighting in the bath - real important stuff 

The chair and the crib came in! Can you spot them in this mess ? (We also had a couple of showers, thus so. much. stuff.)

I became a bit obsessed with mattress shopping and went to Atlanta to find the best one 

I got a little distracted while away! Baby Shopping Spree!

For the most part, what we lack is in the works: a daybed is under construction, our draperies and the crib bedding are at the work room - hopefully both will look similar to what's below once completed.

I have a few things on the way for the walls... but I'm not sure I'm going to love them, so I'll wait to post about what actually works ... I want something large over the crib (canvas) and something large over the changing table (mirror), so I'm thinking maybe a gallery wall over the daybed. I might do a post on what that could be composed of alone! 

Let's see... what else...

I ordered crib sheets today - yay! 

Now, if I could just find a jute rug that isn't backordered until the end of the year... grrr

New West Elm

Have you seen the latest West Elm catalog? It's endlessly inspiring. 

The iconic parsons desk has been updated with a hand wrapped antiqued metal, new mid-century pieces are spot on and their answer to Beni Ourain rugs isn't half bad.

What's more is their clever partnership with 20 x 200 and inclusion of beloved bloggers featuring with their own we products - genius!



Not to mention, countless pages feature etsy art.

 The whole thing is a treasure trove and they have a blog: Front & Main - love!

The Couple Who Works Together...

Lee and Kevin Kleinhelter of Atlanta work in similar lines. They've recently created a combined office space that is drop. dead. gorgeous.

The two work spaces are mirror images of each other with similar design elements. Both are wallpapered and feature a pair of lamps on a console with a mirror. Then they have identical desks, pendants, desk lamps and chairs. Love the concept.

The common area is home-like in layout and furnishings. The pieces are so ... Pieces! That driftwood on the wall is fantastic.

Even if Matt and I ever could share an office, neither of us are neat enough to achieve this level of chic.

Jenna Lyons :: Can't Get Enough

The latest installment of Jenna Lyons love can be found in Vogue UK. Or all over the blogosphere (thank goodness - I'm not exactly sure how to get my hands on a current issue of Vogue UK around these parts).

Even though this article doesn't appear to really offer up anything new in the way of what is shown, Jenna's home is one that is endlessly inspirational ... in a real way.

Though the particulars are out of my world for sure, the look is attainable: Moroccan rugs and mid-centruy furnishings, a very edited (read: black and white only) palette with very strong - and fairly singular - accent colors (hot pink! electric yellow!). And I think that's the draw.

Sort of like the the doll at the helm of J.Crew herself.

In case you have not yet picked up the latest House Beautiful, do so.

There's lots of loveliness - as always - but among it this time, is a darling feature of a teeny, tiny Brooklyn apartment decorated by the ever-fabulous Nick Olsen.

(oh! and it happens to belong to my friend Rebecca (who is - just while we're talking about her! - a yoga instructor . picture taker . sanity seeker. (her words). She's pretty fascinating (check out a few of her photographs and yoga poses to see what I mean!)

Pleasingly PINK

John Derian for Target (again!)

New York-based designer John Derian has once again collaborated with Target on a collection of 100 home accessories ... all priced under $30!


Primarily known for his (a.ma.zing (as in, made with color reproductions of 18th and 19th century illustrations)) decoupage, derian's collection for target will feature not only these little lovelies but melamine dinnerware and fabric covered storage bins as well.


With serving pieces starting at $1.99, I just might have a JD collection after all ;)


September 5 can't get here fast enough. (it's in my calendar. for real).

oh how i love this room.

I have a bad habit of starting posts and never publishing them. I just found this one from November of last year and now having no idea what I was originally waiting on to "finish" it, I'm sening it out ;) especially because i still feel the same way(s) and am constantly looking for inspiration for the new house (geeeez, tired of hearing about that yet?!)

let me count the ways:

- Rubie Green pink East Village draperies. are you kidding me?!

- the nail heads on that fabulous old chair

- the gallery style grouping of artwork in the hall (isn't that probably a hall?)

- the chain motif on the console(s)

- the pair of said consoles

- the sketches propped on (one of) the console(s)

- the enormous silver ornaments lazily strewn about

- (even) that sweet little pup. chillin'

- the "tree" in a vase (reminds me of our's)

- the soft gray walls

- the same soft gray trim

Lucite?!













i think this is the image that started it all (rip, domino). thanks to erin (of course!) for having it.


I've wanted one of these for um... ever and have had a crush on these for quite some time as well. Then I saw these and think they are pretty swell too. (Oh yeh and these at Angie Hranowsky's - she is so fabulous. all the time.)

As I am getting close(r) to being ready to actually buy things to go in the new house, I'm at a loss. . .

How much is too much lucite?!
