Kay Fuller Lighting

Happy Friday everyone!  I have something fun to share today - If you are local, you may have heard that my my mother-in-law - Kay Fuller, owner of Kay Fuller Interiors...has opened a lighting store.  Well, it opened last week and is amazing!  I will let the pictures do the talking, but if you are in the area - please stop by..you won't regret it!

The grand opening is Thursday, November 14th 4:00-6:00.  This will overlap Lancaster Village's Christmas open house (starts at 5) which is always so fun for the kids.. (and grown ups).  If you aren't familiar with the area, Lancaster Village is the cute little shopping area where Kay's interior store is located and now her lighting store as well.  They will have Santa and carriage rides, along with treats in every store you stop in.

But I am forewarning you, as soon as you step through the doors of Kay Fuller Lighting, it will make you want to change all the fixtures in your house.

the one above is my favorite

another favorite...

well, they are all my favorite...

And an added bonus - for the grand opening, I will be there (that's not the bonus) along with sweet em earrings all available for that time period (4-6)  for $10 per pair of earrings. (that IS the bonus) It will be a great time to grab some teacher Christmas gifts, Thanksgiving hostess gifts, or stocking stuffers while browsing for lighting.  Please join us for wine and hor d'oevres.  Hope to see you there :)

Kay Fuller Interiors

It feels a little funny for me to be writing a post entitled "Kay Fuller Interiors", but here I am :)  You see, while Arre and I do share the mother-in-law (Kay Fuller) who is the creative force (among other things) behind Kay Fuller Interiors (her interior design store she started 20+ years ago), I don't have the history with the store that Arre does.  Arre worked there long before she met her husband (Kays youngest son, the other one is mine) and I may be wrong, but i think it's where they met or at least got to know each other.  Her love of interior design has kept her in close contact with the store (well that and the fact that we are all now family) through the years.  But I am here to tell you that now Kay Fuller Interiors is carrying sweet em jewelry!

Family, or not, I feel honored to have my jewelry here.  Kay has such an eye for style and her store reflects that.

She has taught me a lot over the years.  When Jim and I moved into our first house she "helped" me decorate (as in did it all herself per my request because I honestly did not care what color the walls were and what fabric my pillows were in or even if I had pillows at all). I have come a long way but still rely on Kay and Arre for decorating advice.

While you are there, check out all the beautiful items KFI has to offer.  Many of her items are one of a kind finds.

She has recently started carrying baby gifts, and has always had wedding gifts, but now much more to offer!

It's definitely worth seeing and now you can grab your mom (sister, aunt, daughter, friend) or yourself some earrings as you browse.

And lastly, I will leave you with a snapshot of my home office. One (baby) step towards organization.

how cute is ...

Bates?!

Our dear friend, Karyn, recently had a darling baby girl: Bates. And lucky little girl that this child is gets to live in a nursery that is just precious enough for her new born status - the design elements will take her years beyond the crib - thanks to her interior designing mama.

stewart & james has a place on the wall and we're thrilled to be there. (we love framing vintage alphabets - have we mentioned that?!). We even heard there may be a need for a few more of our piece - hope so ;)

This pink wood has just the right patina to keep from being saccharine, making it suitable for Karyn and Bates!

Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos, Karyn and welcome to the world, Bates!

Serena & Lily {reinvented}

love this.

Have you had a chance to check out the new-new Serena & Lily catalog? They've rebranded and I like it.

Geometric Nailhead Patterned Upholstered Headboard - be still my heart!

Great Pattern and Color - for the floor - yes!

Dip-Dyed Draperies - yes please (I may or may not already be working on a similar project for a room in my home ... )

(these don't appear to be available for purchase - please advise if you know the contrary to be true)

oh wait! they already put all of my favorite things in one room?! i swear i didn't see that before i picked those faves. maybe i should do styling for them... Serena, Lily - are y'all listening?!

Among the changes is their logo, which they recruited Andy Spade to create - clever girls. This rebrand is an attempt to move outside of nurserys, they explained in the latest issue of Lonny Mag - check it out for the full story.

Kips Bay Decorator Show House

Have you seen this year's Kips Bay Decorator Show House?!

My two favorites were Amanda Nisbet's bedroom and Celerie Kemble's parlor - for totally different reasons.

Nisbet's bedroom was total mayhem!

That wallcovering - it makes me want to scream (in a good way.) I love the shade of pink and the handpainted look. Not to mention how intense it is as an all over application.
And the artwork is amazing - I can't wait to be able to collect art work. I can't stop looking at this piece.

The paneled walls are gorgeous on their own but are even better in contrast to the pink walls!
The tiny brass nailheads on the upholstered headboard are great too and probably a more apraochable detail to take away from this over-the-top space.

And I loved the layout of the parlor -

I think she did a great job of maximizing the space by ignoring what was already where (windows, shelving, etc.). That is so hard to do - for me. I am trying, though and feel most inspired by her illustration here.

We have a small library in the new house (ah - the new house - remember that? are you even still interested?) and have been wrestling with furniture placement. It's so tiny and only has one open wall that is also the only walk way.

I love Kemble's placement of the tete-a-tete settee - in front of but not obstructing the window - genius! I just don't have the gorgeous view from my window, so I don't know that many a tete-a-tetes would commence there...

She also smartly placed a sofa in front of and hung artwork from the open shelving.  Maybe I will too!

Any favorites?

Pleasingly PINK

As I mentioned last year, I am really. into. pink.

The latest piece of pink to catch my eye are the sofas in Ann Mashburn's home.

I hate to lust but...

how can i help myself?!

(the chairs in her shop are not too shabby either)

Picking a Pink

Possibly much to my husband's chagrin, I am painting four walls of our home pink. They are not big walls but they are prominent ones. And I ... can't. decide. which. pink.

That's right. Pink. I am painting a room in my house pink. And it is not (only) because I have four nieces five and under and a four year old sister - but I do think they'll love it ;)

I've been scouring the internet for months (seriously, our painter finished the entire rest of the house and left and he's about to return to do touch-ups and I still don't know.) and I'm starting to narrow it down.

i think i want a blush hue. even a pink with a little dirt in it. but not mauve. more than not-mauve, though i don't want it to look like a baby's room - at all (my mother-in-law thinks this is impossible - and she is an interior designer with great taste, so i should trust her). one idea she had that i'm really liking is to do a wash of color over the currently white walls. i also want it to be luminescent in some way ... i haven't even mentioned that to her yet ...

any ideas?
