subtle + shocking = color love (for me anyway)

while i am not a fan of the look (at all. ugh) Rachel Weisz was sporting at the Met Ball i am drawn to the color combination of her dress...

pink and ... yellow? yes. it's not new or surprising. it's just surprisingly likable. it would ordinarily be very Easter and girlie but something about the shades is very alluring. The pale of the pink and the shocking hue of mustard-y yellow. it just... works. for me anyway

a couple of days later i was just as pleased to find these colors, though not exactly paired together, featured in House Beautiful as sexy paint colors. Unfortunately neither me taking a picture of the page (and no, i do not have a scanner) nor the web sites belonging to the featured paint companies will do these color's justice. and of course, hb's web site does have a snippet of that feature online but does not include the colors, which are Sherwin Williams Romance and Benjamin Moore Burnt Orange - but seriously don't even look them up - they look so wrong everywhere i've seen them besides IN the June issue of HB. of course! (anyone with a copy of the mag and a scanner feel free to send me page 18)

the web site did at least lead me to yet another use of this color combination in the way of this dining room feature. subtle (the powder pink) with shocking (the electric yellow). yes, i think that best explains it.

and, by the way, i am obsessed with large scale yellow sea horses. a few years ago i somehow stumbled upon a sketch Virginia Johnson did of one and have not been able to get enough ever since.
