a winner and a fiesta pool party

We have a winner!  Through a random drawing, our 2nd commenter (Jamie!) has won two pairs of sweet em earrings of her choice – Congrats Jamie! – please head over to etsy to pick out two and let me know which you choose – shopsweetem @ gmail (dot) com

On to the fiesta!  MJ turned 8 :)  We celebrated pool side with a Mexican fiesta.

MJ found a picture of a cake online and I tried my best to copy it, with a little guidance from a friend I think we pulled it off pretty closely (and I think Mills had an early taste by the looks of that finger swipe)

I saw these streamers here and they didn’t take long to make at all and were so festive, I highly recommend them!

the cake again:  There are 4 (9” round) layers underneath all that (6 cans of!) icing.  I used two boxes of chocolate cake mix (and of course, froze those a week ahead of time!)

slip n’ slide was a huge hit (rental from Rental Depot, the owner is a good friend of Jim’s and one of the nicest people I know)

We served tacos (per MJ’s request) With the help of my mom (which by the way, all my parties are with the help of my mom), we made the taco meat (ground beef plus this mix) 2 weeks ahead of time and froze it.  We put it in the crock pot the day of.  Easy, easy party and just what Mary James wanted.

Just for fun:

Have a lovely weekend!  We are headed to the beach with the family so all Sweet Em orders will be on hold until 7.22.13, thank you for your patience!

a few changes around here and a giveaway!

See the new heading ?! ^  I feel a little explanation is needed...

As you know, stewart & james is a company Arre and I started...we made frames out of reclaimed wood and then we became busy with life.  We took a "break" and realized how nice that was (wood had become scarce and keeping our product how we originally envisioned was starting to become quite a challenge!)

During the break - I started making earrings, sweet em was created (as I explained in this post).  Arre is still enjoying her break with her sweet baby, but she will still stop in every once and a while for a post because what would this blog be without her?!  Not nearly as pretty, imaginative, and well written that's for sure!

Also, on etsy or facebook you may have seen those pretty ears and well styled photos?  That is in large thanks to Arre and her eye for style... so she's not totally uninvolved :) And maybe she will start something that I know will be worth following.

We are excited to get back to blogging and hope to keep these pages filled much more often.  Thank you to all that have continued to follow us in this break and as a thanks to you all we are offering a giveaway.

two pairs of sweet em earrings of your choice

::Please leave a comment on this post for a chance to win:: winner will be chosen Friday, July 12th.

Now, I will not make you (since I am a total pushover) but out of your kind heart, please like sweet em on facebook and if you are feeling extra nice, suggest your friends to like as well.  I know y'all are so nice you will try :)

And, as a side note, my oldest baby is 8 today...eight! She's so old

Sweet Em

Hello! It's been too long! I think it's safe to say that Arre and I have thoroughly enjoyed our "hiatus" that is turning into a bit more of an extended break :). We have had a busy but fun summer and in this little break, I started making earrings... Check it out here on Etsy: sweet em

I started making earrings for an answer to end of the year gifts for teachers.  With 5 teachers to buy for this year, I wanted to give them something to show how much we appreciate the love and support they showed our girls, day in and day out this year but something that wouldn't break the bank.

I hand make all the earrings out of clay.  The name comes from my 3 sweet Ms (ems). Mary James, Molly, and Mills.  You've met them before :)

Please check out the shop when you have a free minute :)!
Also, like sweet em on Facebook if you are feeling nice.
I will be doing a giveaway soon for facebookers.  Have a lovely 4th of July!

a confetti tea party

Mills & Cellie have been sharing their birthday parties for 3 years now and hopefully they will continue to always do so!  As I have mentioned in the past years, my friend Molly (Cellie’s mom) is so great to throw a party with – she will do whatever ridiculous things i throw her way.  I really truly think this may be my most favorite party we have done yet…enjoy the pictures and can you believe my baby is 4?!  I can not.

Yes it’s almost April and while I am not a strong believer in “better late than never,” I thought maybe this will be helpful for next year!  We had close to 50 valentine’s to make this year and while I do love how these turned out, in hindsight those mickey mouse cards already put together with a sucker are looking pretty good for next year ;)

023

the stamp above, i found at Staples and am in love with it!  It’s a little time consuming with the tiny letters but so worth it when you are stamping 50 Valentine cards

Attach a little baggie with two different color conversation hearts (enough to play a tic tac toe game with).  I just stapled them to the paper.

I helped with MJ’s Valentine party at school again this year and took only one picture:

We used the washi tape to tape down tic tac toe grids for the kids to play.

I hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day!  Check out last year’s Valentine’s Day party here (we used the same chocolate bowls this year but used them to hold the conversation hearts for tic tac toe.)

a camp “in” party

Well hello there!  It’s been too long but I thought I better go ahead and get Molly’s 6th birthday party down for record.  You know, to prove it happened one day when she wonders why everyone’s birthdays are on the blog but her 6th.  So here it is..a month late :)

Molly’s birthday is the end of January and is always a little tricky with weather.  We never know which way the temp will go.  I planned an indoor party for her this year to cut down on the stress of January’s fickle weather but it turned out the one year I plan an indoor party..the weather was beautiful.  Go figure :)  I set up two tents in the living room and strung lights for our stars.

den

We threw as many pillows as we could find into the tents along with books (since that’s what squealing, giggling 6 year olds want to do- sit in a tent and read, again: thank goodness it was pretty outside)

Although Molly went the blue route last year (and wore the same dress again this year)..it’s no secret her favorite color is purple.

the favors included glow sticks, sunglasses, & compasses all wrapped up in a purple bandana.

and a shadow puppet or two to take home.  I bought this pattern to trace on etsy because i can NOT draw … and I just blew it up on a copy machine, traced onto cardstock and cut.  I taped the cutouts onto wooden sticks and stuck them in a piece of styrofoam that I covered in paper too.

Please keep in mind these hearts are LARGE which makes them so fun! - the door in the pictures is a pretty large door in itself so make sure you check out the measurements.  Sorry - Albany and Atlanta delivery only (delivery for ATL- Saturday, January 26th)
